Mission & Vision

Our Mission:

CSBGL is a consortium of schools seeking to deepen our understanding of boys’ and girls’  development in order to enhance the effectiveness of our learning communities. In collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania, teachers and students conduct participatory action research to insure that student voices inform institutional policies and practices and that schools promote the widest sense of possibility and greatest hope for integrity in students’  lives.

A Vision for the Future:

Over the next five years, CSBGL will establish itself as a standard bearer for participatory action research and independent school collaboration.  The research by member schools will be aimed at facilitating meaningful improvements in the lives of students and will strive to identify best practices that help schools to be more inclusive, generous and effective places.

As each school masters research techniques and as the model of continuous improvement through rigorous inquiry becomes embedded in each school's culture, CSBGL will acquire a convincing body of evidence that supports this model of school and university collaboration.

Ultimately, CSBGL seeks to perfect the practice of PAR over the next 5 years in order to position itself to have broader relevance beyond its member schools.  From a position of success with a proven track record for institutional change, CSBGL will broaden its membership, share practices, and disseminate research results at conferences and in publications.
